Hey Raffikki!

Yet again I find myself sitting on the shores of another stunning beach, this time in a place called Pangani, a relatively quiet little town north of Dar es Salam. Yesterday we left the island of Zanzibar in style, but more about that later.

We arrived in the town of Dar es Salaam on Wednesday, the 10th of August. With the veterinary volunteer work done with, we decided to stay in the capital city for just a couple days. In this time all three of us discovered cracks...

13 July 2011 - Blantyre to Lilongwe

Howzit

Jiten's last blog would've finished off with our arrival in Blantyre, or rather Limbe. The town where we spent several days of rest. Much needed, especially in my case where the previous rest day would've been in Vilanculos almost two weeks before. Our stay in Limbe was just what was needed and staying with family friends of Imraan's was a real treat. Again spoilt with meals several times a day we ate perhaps just a little too well. But we were also pr...

Lifes a beach

Date: Wednesday 8th June 2011

Ola! We've been in Mozambique for just over a week... and its been epic! The hospitality has been very much like the weather – very warm – and we're loving it!

Now about the weather...

Now I must admit that one of the major contributing factors to doing this trip, for me, was the Cape Town weather, to be more specific, winter. As much as I love the Mother City, winter sucks. So to all my friends who are now experiencing this most cherished time of the yea...

I am an African

Posted by Jiten Magan on Friday, February 11, 2011, In : Preparations

Last week I had a very cool meeting with Lenina Rassool. A free-lance journalist and lucky for us, a very nice person. She has agreed not only to help us with our newspaper and magazine articles but also with some of our marketing. We’ll have another meeting soon to discuss our integration into the print media field.

Last week I also had the chance to speak to Fanie de Villiers, the former legendary South African fast bowler. Fanie’s daughter is deaf and had a cochlear implant operation, ...

Goodbye 2010... Happy holidays!

Posted by Ria Moothilal on Thursday, December 23, 2010, In : Preparations

Season’s greetings to you all

It would be a shame to end of 2010 with one last blog. It’s been a mammoth year for all of us in South Africa, a bit more partying than usual thanks to the world cup, and now the end of 2010 is just a week away.

Ticking the checklist
It’s also been a big year for team SiyaShova. From what started out as an idea of having adventure turned out into become a full blown project. Countless hours spent on ticking things of the checklist, which among others include...

Hey all, Ria here. Its been a while since the last blog so here’s the latest...

In the workshop – At the moment our bike builds are fully underway. It shouldn’t be long before Imraan takes his out for its first test ride. Over the past few weeks we’ve placing various orders for bike parts and accessories. One of the fun aspects of this has got to be when they arrive – having a courier come by with a box full of “toys” makes one feel like a kid again – it’s exciting, I love ...

SiyaShova at the AmaShova

Posted by Ria Moothilal on Monday, October 25, 2010, In : Preparations

Being from KZN and having spent much time in both Pietermaritzburg and Durban, the AmaShova cycle race is something that I've wanted to do for a very long time. As luck would it have it, this year I happened to be in Durban the weekend of the race - this was pure chance as I working in Durban on the Monday. However, I'd only realised the race was that weekend after I had left Cape Town - so I was really unprepared - no training, cycling gear, helmet... oh and no bicycle!!!!!

5 days to go...

The wheels are starting to turn...

Posted by Ria Moothilal on Friday, June 4, 2010,
Hello everyone

Welcome to our site. We'll be using this blog to keep you updated on our preperations and come next year March, we'll be using it to update you on our travels!

So we've finally decided on a site name "SiyaShova.com" - comes from the Zulu language. We wanted something from a local South African language. Zulu is the big language in KwaZulu-Natal, the province from which both Imraan and I come from. We like it. After all this is about a trip across Africa, undertaken by South Afri...
